Professor Michael Kaplowitz has been appointed interim chairperson of the Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies (CARRS) in the CANR effective Jan. 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014. Michael has been with CARRS since 1997. He earned his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins, his juris doctorate from Duke University Law School and his Ph.D. from MSU in resource development and resource economics. While at MSU, his primary research activity has been on natural resource law and policy.
Associate professor Randy Showerman with the Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies, has been named director of the Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT) in the CANR at MSU. Showerman will oversee and coordinate the operations of the instructional programs of IAT, including on-campus certificate and special programs as well as off-campus credit and noncredit programs. Additionally, he will provide guidance on recommendations for admissions and work with departments, deans and directors on implementing program change. Showerman will also lead the Academic Orientation Programs for IAT students.
