MSU researchers have studied the following trails and issued these reports
Special Events Held on Rail-
NEW Michigander 06'- This study profiles the close to 1,000 bike riders who rode 2 or 7 days across Michigan in this annual ride sponsored by Michigan Trails and Greenway Alliance. The report features a panel study of participants in 2005 and then again in 2006 in relationship to the trails, destinations, and event, with estimates of economic expenditures, satisfaction with the event and general biking experiences.An executive summary and survey instrument are provided.
Michigander '99 - This study profiles the 1,800 bike riders who rode 2, 6, or 7 days across Michigan in this annual ride.  Estimates of economic expenditures, satisfaction with the event and general biking experiences are included. The report consists of 60 pages, 32 tables, executive summary, and survey instrument.
Midwest Tandem Rally '99 - This study profiles the 1,100 bike riders or 550 teams who rode in Midland County, including the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail.  Estimates of economic expenditures, satisfaction with the event and general biking experiences are included.   The report consists of 52 pages, 28 tables, executive summary, and survey instrument.
Adjacent Landowners and Nearby Businesses to a Rail-Trail
Isabella County, Michigan - This study profiles landowners and businesses' attitudes about a trail extension before it was built.  Findings on awareness of the trail planning, development process, concerns about a trial; anticipated use of the trail are featured.  The report consists of 34 pages, 22 tables, executive summary, and survey instruments.
Midland County, Michigan - This study profiles adjacent landowners and nearby businesses' attitudes about a rail-trail. Respondents are asked about their involvement when the trail was planned and constructed in the early 1990's, as well as current efforts and attitudes about the trail. The report consists of 57 pages, 23 tables, executive summary and survey instruments.
NEW Kent County, Michigan and the White Pine State Trail - This study profiles adjacent landowners and nearby businesses' attitudes about a rail-trail. Respondents are asked about their involvement when the trail was planned and constructed in the early 1990's, as well as current efforts and attitudes about the trail. The report consists of 54 pages, 34 tables, an executive summary and the survey instrument.
Recreation and Rail-Trail Study
Midland County Recreation Needs Assessment - This study provides a comprehensive recreation needs assessment for Midland County, Michigan residents.  Findings show the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is a very important and used recreation facility in the county.  The report consists of 59 pages, 30 tables, executive summary, and survey instrument.
Midland County Residents and Pere Marquette Rail-Trail Usages - This study is based on the comprehensive recreation needs assessment for Midland County, Michigan and provides detailed information on trail usage and benefits of trails.  The report consists of 49 pages, 14 tables, 4 figures, executive summary, and survey instrument.

Nation wide survey of State and Federal Trail Managers - This study provides one of the most up-to-date accounts of trail planning and management in the United States. Surveys were mailed to every state and selected federal trail units. Two-thirds of the states are represented and a range of federal units. The report consists of 25 pages, 9 tables, executive summary and survey instruments.
